Power Take Off Units

The Knowles 'Sandwich' Power Take Off's or (P.T.O's) for short are installed in the vehicle between the Engine and Gearbox, hence the name sandwich. Our range of P.T.O units, are capable of coping with maximum engine power, depending on the specification and build, offers a purpose built choice suitable for many applications. These include, not only the obvious, cement mixers and cement pumps, but also fire tenders, gritters, hydraulic excavators, mobile shot blasting plants, crushing plants, brash choppers, road sweepers and airport cleaners.

Design
The standard layout consists of a simple train of high quality engineered gears, mounted in a robust casing. One gear is mounted on the end of the engine crankshaft, others on heavy duty bearings. Lubrication is achieved by "splash" feed through an oil jet, directed onto the gear train from the vehicles own engine oil supply, then returning to the vehicles engine sump. This method ensures that maintenance of the unit is reduced to an absolute minimum, thus achieving maximum reliability.

Quality
The "Knowles" power take off is a well designed and field proven product, carefully and meticulously engineered to high standards of manufacture and installation. This results in a very long, working life with low maintenance and maximum reliability even under severe working conditions, to the benefit of the operator.

Weight & Speeds
Among the many advantages of the "Knowles" unit, are its light weight, saving between 80 to 250 KGs., depending on the installation. Higher than engine speeds can be obtained by specifying the correct assembly build, in order to transmit the required power and speed.

Output Options
In addition to our normal live drive, we can offer certain types with a twin output, one engageable and one live drive. Alternatively, two independently engageable outputs. Another type is the engageable with one or two auxiliary drive units, all engageable with one pneumatic control. Another feature is our live drive right angle constant running option, for use with one or two hydraulic pumps.

Output couplings
The majority of our selection come with a choice of flange sizes, quick release couplings and/or drive or plug-in connections to the load.

Reduction Gearbox Units

Introduction
The "Knowles" reduction gearboxes are robustly engineered units with the same high quality and specification, as our P.T.O products.

The gearbox is inserted into the transmission line to lower the vehicles final drive speed.

Reduction gearboxes allow a vehicle to travel at speeds as low as 0.01 Kilometers Per Hour upwards depending on vehicle build and specification.
